HIGH RESOLUTION MINERALOGICAL CHARACTERIZATION OF SEDIMENTS - LAKE BOL?T?U-FEREDEU (ROMANIA)

نویسندگان

چکیده

The catchment (bedrock and soil) sediments of lake Bol?t?u, Romania were studied by high resolution multi-methodological investigations to characterize paleoenvironmental formation conditions. Particle size analyses, optical cathodoluminescence microscopy, FTIR-ATR Raman spectroscopy, X-ray powder diffraction, XRF applied for microtextural, chemical, micro-mineralogical embedded organic material characterization distribution the sediments, especially concerning geochemical conditions, like pH redox potential change. Our results support physical chemical weathering in process soil with appearance new minerals appear (10Å sized phyllosilicates clay minerals). Comparison these studies offer possible differentiation syn- diagenetic mineralization, clarification debris contribution, microbial mediation complex mineralization via decomposition cell extracellular polymeric substance. Based on analyses abrasives, a suboxic environment prevailed depositional area considerable contribution is proposed accumulation sediments.

In Situ, High-Resolution Profiles of Labile Metals in Sediments of Lake Taihu

Characterizing labile metal distribution and biogeochemical behavior in sediments is crucial for understanding their contamination characteristics in lakes, for which in situ, high-resolution data is scare. The diffusive gradient in thin films (DGT) technique was used in-situ at five sites across Lake Taihu in the Yangtze River delta in China to characterize the distribution and mobility of eig...

High-resolution record of geomagnetic secular variation from Late Pleistocene Lake Lisan sediments (paleo Dead Sea)

We measured geomagnetic secular variation in Lake Lisan sediments (paleo Dead Sea). More than 1500 oriented samples were collected from a 27.3-m section of alternating aragonite and detritus laminae in the Dead Sea basin ranging in age from 67 to 32 ka. The natural remanent magnetization (NRM) is carried by titanomagnetite in the detrital laminae whereas the aragonite is diamagnetic. The NRM is...

Identification of Sand Dune Sources in the East Sistan, Iran by Using Mineralogical and morphoscopic Characterization of Sediments

Sedimentation in the dune fields of the Sistan Plain of Iran is the result of deposition of fine-grained sediment downstream of the Helmand River. Due to poor adhesion and low moisture content of soil particles, and the strong renowned Levar wind, dune fields mostly of Barchan and Nebkha types are created. This study aims to assess the physical, morphological and mineralogical characteristics o...

High-Resolution Profiles of Dissolved Reactive Phosphorus in the Porewaters of Lake Sediments Assessed by DGT Technique

The technique of DGT (diffusive gradients in thin films) was applied to obtain high-resolution vertical profiles of dissolved reactive phosphorus (DRP) in sediment porewater of Lake Chaohu, a shallow eutrophication lake. Three kinds of DGT probes (with three thicknesses of diffusive gel: 0.38 mm, 0.78 mm and 1.18 mm) measured vertical concentration and induced flux from solid to solution phase ...

Bottom Sediments of Lake Nicaragua and Lake Managua, Western Nicaragua

Lakes Nicaragua and Managua are large, rather shallow, fresh-water bodies that lie in a late Tertiary and Quaternary graben in western Nicaragua. The bottom sediments comprise highly organic diatomaceous volcanic silts and clays in which quartz plagioclase feldspar, dioctahedral montmorillonite and volcanic glass are the principal constituents. ' Organic nitrogen content of the lake sediments r...
